These are not true Caterpillars, but are the larvae of a Sawfly (which is really a wasp!). This species feeds on :

An adult wasp (it is misnamed as a 'fly') is black with yellow markings.

The species has been found in Queensland.
It has been introduced into Florida, where Australian Paperbarks have begun multiplying out of control.
Other Saw Fly species have different foodplants.
